What size and format should the photo, signature and thumb impression be for the NEET UG form?

Previous-year referenceApproved by M.B. Patil Education admissions team, 23 Oct 2026 · source-checked 22 Oct 2026

Short answer

In the NEET (UG) 2026 form, the photograph had to be a JPG/JPEG file of 10 kb to 200 kb and the signature a JPG/JPEG file of 10 kb to 100 kb. The left and right hand fingers and thumb impressions had to be JPG/JPEG; one part of the bulletin gives 10 kb to 200 kb for this file and another gives 50 kb to 300 kb.

Based on the NEET (UG) 2026 Information Bulletin. The 2027 bulletin hasn't been published yet — rules can change, so check it when it is.

The rule, explained

Photograph: a recent passport-size photo, taken after 01 January 2026, in colour or black and white, against a white background. 80% of the image should be your face, without a mask and with ears visible. Spectacles are allowed only if you wear them regularly. Polaroid and computer-generated photos are not accepted.

Signature: a JPG/JPEG file between 10 kb and 100 kb.

Fingers and thumb impressions: put the impressions of the left and right hand fingers and thumb, and upload them as JPG/JPEG. Unclear impressions are rejected. Because the bulletin gives two different file-size ranges, follow the size the online form itself asks for.

Most PDF documents, such as the Class X certificate, Class X mark sheet and category certificate, had to be between 50 kb and 300 kb.

Upload carefully: the bulletin says the facility to correct the photograph, signature and finger/thumb impressions will not be given. Keep 6 to 8 passport-size and 4 to 6 postcard-size (4"X6") colour photos with a white background, because the same photo is used at the exam centre and in counselling.
