Is caste reservation applicable in deemed university MBBS seats?

Previous-year referenceApproved by M.B. Patil Education admissions team, 23 Oct 2026 · source-checked 22 Oct 2026

Short answer

No. MCC's bulletin says there is no reservation for OBC, SC, ST, PwD or EWS candidates in Deemed Universities. Some Deemed Universities may have seats reserved for Jain Minority or Muslim Minority candidates, and 15% of Deemed University seats are allocated to NRI candidates.

Based on MCC's UG Counselling 2026 Information Bulletin (revised 20.08.2026). The 2027 bulletin hasn't been published yet — rules can change, so check it when it is.

Who this applies to

Candidates seeking MBBS/BDS seats in Deemed Universities through MCC counselling

The rule, explained

MCC conducts counselling for 100% of Deemed University seats. To be eligible you must have qualified NEET-UG; these seats are domicile free.

Minority reservation, where it exists, is only in certain Deemed Universities. MCC asks candidates to verify their eligibility before applying under a minority category.

NRI, Jain Minority and Muslim Minority seats still vacant during Round 3 are converted to Self-Financed Merit seats, but only after all eligible candidates in those categories are exhausted.

The registration charges for Deemed Universities are the same for everyone, whatever your category: a non-refundable registration fee of ₹5,000 and a refundable security amount of ₹2,00,000.
