How does reservation work in All India Quota MBBS seats?

Previous-year referenceApproved by M.B. Patil Education admissions team, 23 Oct 2026 · source-checked 22 Oct 2026

Short answer

In MCC's 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats, the Central Government's reservation policy applies: 15% for Scheduled Castes (SC), 7.5% for Scheduled Tribes (ST), 27% for Other Backward Classes – Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) as per the Central OBC list, and 10% for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS). In addition, 5% of seats have horizontal reservation for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD).

Based on MCC's UG Counselling 2026 Information Bulletin (revised 20.08.2026). The 2027 bulletin hasn't been published yet — rules can change, so check it when it is.

Who this applies to

Candidates in MCC counselling for 15% All India Quota (AIQ) MBBS/BDS seats

The rule, explained

AIQ seats are domicile free. To be eligible you must have qualified NEET-UG, and NMC norms apply. MCC applies the roster to AIQ seats as per DoPT, MoHFW and Government of India norms.

PwBD reservation is horizontal, so PwBD seats sit inside each category — the bulletin's tables list UR (PwD), OBC (PwD), SC (PwD) and ST (PwD) seats. Only candidates who get an Eligibility Certificate from one of MCC's Medical Assessment Boards are shown PwBD seats.

If no eligible candidates are left in a category, seats are converted during Round 3: PwD seats go to the same category without PwD, ST seats go to SC, SC seats go to UR (unreserved/general), and EWS and NRI seats go to UR.

OCI cardholders are treated at par with Indian citizens and are eligible for UR (General) seats as well as NRI seats in MCC counselling.

Reservation is different in other kinds of seats MCC fills. For example, Deemed Universities have no OBC/SC/ST/PwBD/EWS reservation.
