Medical PG — NEET-PG
Medical PG — student questions
Each answer is written from the official document and quotes the rule it rests on, with the page. Rules change every year, so every answer says which year it is based on.
Quotas
- What is the difference between All India Quota and state quota in NEET PG counselling? All India Quota (AIQ) seats are the 50% share of seats that states contribute to MCC counselling, and they are domicile free, so your home state does not limit which of these seats you can get. State quota seats are not counselled by MCC; for those, MCC tells candidates to contact the state government or admission authority and its Directorate of Medical Education.Confirmed
- How are deemed university PG seats allotted in MCC counselling?MCC conducts counselling for 100% of Deemed University PG seats in four rounds: Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 and the Stray Vacancy Round. Any candidate who qualified NEET-PG for All India Quota seats can take part, with no domicile condition.Confirmed
MCC PG counselling
- How does MCC NEET PG counselling work round by round?MCC runs four rounds: Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 and a Stray Vacancy Round. In each round you fill and lock choices, MCC allots seats by merit and choice, and you then join or, in Rounds 1 and 2, opt to upgrade. Leaving gets costlier each round: Round 1 has a free exit, leaving in Round 2 forfeits your security deposit, and a Round 3 seat cannot be resigned.Confirmed
- How do I register for MCC NEET PG 2027 counselling? In the 2026 counselling, you registered only online on the MCC website (mcc.nic.in), once, using the email ID and mobile number from your NBE (National Board of Examinations) application. Registration included paying a non-refundable registration fee and a refundable security deposit. MCC hasn't published the 2027 process yet.Previous-year reference
- How should I fill and order my choices in MCC PG counselling? You can fill as many choices as you like, but list them strictly in your order of preference, because seats are allotted by merit and in the order you give, subject to availability. MCC advises filling about 30-40 choices. Once your choices are locked, they cannot be changed.Confirmed
- How much is the MCC PG security deposit and when is it forfeited? The refundable security deposit is Rs 25,000 for UR/EWS candidates and Rs 10,000 for SC/ST/OBC/PwD candidates in the All India Quota, and Rs 2,00,000 for all candidates for Deemed Universities. It is forfeited if you don't join a seat allotted in Round 2 or a later round, or if your admission is cancelled for any reason. Not reporting to a Round 1 seat is a 'free exit'.Confirmed
- If I opt for upgradation in MCC PG round 2, what happens to my round 1 seat?If you opt for upgradation and MCC upgrades you in Round 2, your Round 1 seat is cancelled automatically and given to someone else, and you must join the Round 2 seat. If you are not upgraded, you keep your Round 1 seat.Confirmed
- What is the penalty for resigning or leaving a PG seat after joining? In MCC counselling, it depends on the round: exiting a Round 1 seat is free, resigning a Round 2 seat means losing your security deposit, and a Round 3 seat cannot be resigned at all. Bond amounts and similar conditions for leaving a course are set by states and colleges, not by MCC, and vary from state to state and institute to institute.Confirmed
- Can I leave my MCC PG seat to join a state quota seat?Yes, in Rounds 1 and 2. If you get a state counselling seat you want, you must surrender your MCC seat by resigning: this is a free exit in Round 1, but in Round 2 your security deposit is forfeited. A Round 3 MCC seat cannot be resigned.Confirmed
- How do I report to the allotted PG college and what is the joining process? After MCC's final allotment, download your allotment letter and upload clear scans of your documents on the MCC portal, ideally within 2-3 days. 'Freeze' candidates (keeping the seat) then go to the college in person for document verification and pay the admission fee. 'Float' candidates (wanting to upgrade) don't visit; the college verifies their documents online.Confirmed
