After MBA CAP allotment, what are my options: accept, betterment or cancel?

Previous-year referenceApproved by M.B. Patil Education admissions team, 23 Oct 2026 · source-checked 22 Oct 2026

Short answer

If you get your first preference in Round I, one of your first three in Round II or one of your first six in Round III, the seat is auto-frozen and you must accept it. Otherwise you can freeze the seat, accept it and stay in later rounds for betterment, or not accept it and still take part in later rounds. After admission you can cancel online; how much is refunded depends on when you cancel.

Based on the State CET Cell's Information Brochure for 2026–27 admissions (dated 02.07.2026). The 2027–28 brochure hasn't been published yet — rules can change, so check it when it is.

Who this applies to

Candidates allotted a first-year MBA/MMS seat in Maharashtra CAP Rounds I to IV

The rule, explained

Auto-freeze: if you are allotted your first preference in Round I, one of your first three preferences in Round II or one of your first six in Round III, the allotment is auto-frozen. You must accept it — report to an Admission Reporting Centre (ARC) or self-scrutinise your uploaded documents, and pay the seat acceptance fee online — and you cannot take part in later rounds. If you do not complete acceptance, you lose the seat.

Freeze: if you are allotted a lower preference but are happy with it, you can freeze the seat through your login, accept it in the same way and then report to the institute. That becomes your final allotment and you are not considered in later rounds.

Accept and wait for betterment: if you accept a lower-preference seat without freezing it, you stay eligible for later rounds. In the next option form you need not list the seat you already hold. If you are allotted a higher preference, your earlier seat is cancelled automatically; if not, you keep it.

Not accept: if you do not complete acceptance, you lose that seat, but you can still take part in later rounds. As for every round, you must fill and confirm the option form for that round.

Round IV is the last: there is no betterment after Round IV, and the seat allotted or retained in Round IV is final.

Cancelling after admission: apply online for cancellation. Once you submit the request, your admission is treated as cancelled and the seat is released. If you cancel on or before the last date for full refund set by the State CET Cell, the institute refunds all fees except rupees one thousand towards processing charges and returns your original documents. After that date, only the Security Deposit and Caution Money Deposit are refunded.
