Can I use CAT, CMAT or other national test scores in Maharashtra MBA CAP instead of MAH-CET?

Previous-year referenceApproved by M.B. Patil Education admissions team, 23 Oct 2026 · source-checked 22 Oct 2026

Short answer

It depends on your candidature type. Maharashtra State candidates must have a non-zero score in MAH-MBA/MMS CET. All India candidates and Jammu & Kashmir/Ladakh migrant candidates can instead use a non-zero positive score in CAT, CMAT, XAT, ATMA, MAT or GMAT.

Based on the State CET Cell's Information Brochure for 2026–27 admissions (dated 02.07.2026) and MBA/MMS Admission Notice No. 1 for 2026–27. The 2027–28 documents haven't been published yet — rules can change, so check them when they are.

Who this applies to

Candidates seeking first-year MBA/MMS admission through the Maharashtra Centralized Admission Process (CAP)

The rule, explained

Maharashtra State Candidature: under the 2026–27 rules, you must have obtained a non-zero score in MAH-MBA/MMS CET 2026, conducted by the State CET Cell. No other test is listed for this candidature type.

All India Candidature and Jammu & Kashmir/Ladakh migrant candidates: a non-zero positive score in any one of these tests is accepted — the State CET (MAH-MBA/MMS CET), the Common Admission Test (CAT) by the Indian Institute of Management, the Common Management Aptitude Test (CMAT) by the National Testing Agency, the Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT), the Entrance Test for Management Admissions (ATMA), the Management Aptitude Test (MAT) or the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).

All India seats in first-year MBA are filled on the percentile score in these tests.

If you use a CAT, CMAT, XAT, ATMA, MAT or GMAT score valid for 2026–27 admission and did not register for MAH-MBA/MMS CET 2026, you pay a registration fee online: ₹1500 for General category candidates (from Maharashtra, Outside Maharashtra State, and Jammu & Kashmir/Ladakh migrants), or ₹1300 for Maharashtra reserved-category and PwD candidates, with orphan and transgender candidates listed under the same fee. Candidates who registered for the CET pay no fee for admission registration. The fee is non-refundable.
