If I join an MCC seat in round 2, can I still take part in my state's counselling?

Previous-year referenceApproved by M.B. Patil Education admissions team, 23 Oct 2026 · source-checked 22 Oct 2026

Short answer

MCC's rules don't stop you: its All India Quota (AIQ) flow chart for Rounds 1 and 2 shows candidates also taking part in state counselling. But if you get a state seat and want to join it, you must surrender (resign) your AIQ seat — and for a Round 2 seat this is "with forfeiture", meaning you lose your security deposit. Your state's own counselling rules also apply.

Based on MCC's UG Counselling 2026 Information Bulletin (revised 20.08.2026). The 2027 bulletin hasn't been published yet — rules can change, so check it when it is.

Who this applies to

Candidates holding an MCC All India Quota seat from Round 1 or Round 2 who are also in state counselling

The rule, explained

How you resign depends on how you joined. If you reported physically (Freeze), you submit your resignation at the AIQ institute where you were admitted. If you joined online (Float), you submit your resignation online and it is recorded on the MCC portal automatically.

Resignation must be made within the time MCC sets in its schedule. Refunds are processed only after all rounds are completed.

Round 3 is different: Round 3 seats cannot be resigned, and candidates who join a seat in Round 3 are not allowed to take part in any counselling after that.

The Centre and the states share data. Anyone whose name is in an allotted list of either is removed from the All India Stray Vacancy Round.
