How do EWS, SEBC and OBC reservations apply in Maharashtra MBA CAP?

Previous-year referenceApproved by M.B. Patil Education admissions team, 23 Oct 2026 · source-checked 22 Oct 2026

Short answer

In Maharashtra MBA/MMS CAP, 19% of the CAP seats for Maharashtra candidates are reserved for Other Backward Classes (OBC) and 10% for Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC), subject to the High Court's decision. Economically Weaker Section (EWS) candidates get 10% seats over and above the sanctioned intake. These reservations apply only to candidates belonging to Maharashtra State.

Based on the State CET Cell's Information Brochure for 2026–27 admissions (dated 02.07.2026) and MBA/MMS Admission Notice No. 1 for 2026–27. The 2027–28 documents haven't been published yet — reservation rules can change, so check them when they are.

The rule, explained

Reservation percentages are worked out on the seats available for Maharashtra candidates under CAP. Reserved categories total 60.0%: SC 13.0%, ST 7.0%, VJ/DT (NT-A) 3.0%, NT-B 2.5%, NT-C 3.5%, NT-D 2.0%, OBC 19.0% and SEBC 10.0%. You must claim your category when you submit the CAP application form.

SEBC: the reservation policy for SEBC candidates is subject to the decision of the High Court in the related writ petitions.

EWS: 10% seats are reserved for EWS candidates. They are filled through CAP and are over and above the sanctioned intake for each course.

Certificates: OBC and SEBC candidates must produce a caste certificate, a caste validity certificate and a non-creamy layer certificate valid up to 31st March 2027. EWS candidates must produce the EWS Eligibility Certificate in the format of the Government Resolution dated 31/05/2021 (Proforma V). If you cannot produce these at verification, you are treated as a General category candidate for CAP.
