Short answer
Government and government-aided management institutes in Maharashtra, including those in Mumbai offering the Master of Management Studies (MMS), admit students through the Centralized Admission Process (CAP) run by the State CET Cell. Their seats are split between Maharashtra State candidates and All India candidates, and seats are allotted on merit and your option form.
Based on the State CET Cell's Information Brochure for 2026–27 admissions (dated 02.07.2026). The 2027–28 brochure hasn't been published yet — rules can change, so check it when it is.
Who this applies to
Candidates seeking MBA/MMS seats in government, government-aided or university-department management institutes in Maharashtra, including Mumbai
The rule, explained
Government, government-aided, university department and university-managed institutes admit candidates through CAP, the same process used by unaided private institutes. You register with the State CET Cell, get your documents verified, appear in the merit list and fill an option form.
For management courses in government and government-aided institutes and university departments (other than minority institutions), the seats are: autonomous institutes – 85% State Level seats for Maharashtra candidates and 15% All India seats; non-autonomous institutes – 70% Home University (HU) and 15% Other than Home University (OHU) seats for Maharashtra candidates, plus 15% All India seats. The seat table for these institutes lists no Institution Quota.
For a Type A Maharashtra candidate in a postgraduate course, the Home University is decided by where you passed your qualifying examination; other candidature types use other rules. Mumbai University's area covers Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburban, Ratnagiri, Raigad, Palghar, Sindhudurg and Thane districts.
These documents do not name individual institutes or give their seat numbers. Check the seat matrix published before each CAP round.
