If I get my first preference in CAP round 1, is my seat automatically frozen?

Previous-year referenceApproved by M.B. Patil Education admissions team, 23 Oct 2026 · source-checked 22 Oct 2026

Short answer

Yes. If you are allotted your first preference in CAP Round I, the allotment is auto-frozen: you must accept it and you can't take part in later CAP rounds. You still have to confirm it — by reporting to an Admission Reporting Centre (ARC) or by self-scrutiny of your uploaded documents, and paying the seat acceptance fee online — and then report to the college; if you don't confirm it, you lose the seat.

Based on the State CET Cell's Information Brochure for 2026–27 admissions (dated 02.07.2026). The 2027–28 brochure hasn't been published yet — rules can change, so check it when it is.

Who this applies to

Maharashtra CAP candidates for first-year B.E./B.Tech.

The rule, explained

After the auto-freeze, you report to the ARC for document verification, or scrutinise your uploaded documents yourself, and pay the seat acceptance fee online. Then you report to the allotted institute and seek admission. For you, this is the final allotment.

If you don't report to the ARC or don't complete self-scrutiny, your claim on the seat is forfeited automatically and the seat goes back for fresh allotment.

The same rule applies in later rounds to your first three preferences in Round II and your first six in Round III.

If your Round I seat is not your first preference, you are not auto-frozen: you can freeze it, accept it and stay in for betterment, or not accept it.
