Short answer
Under the rules MCC follows, your NRI mother, father, real brother or real sister can sponsor you. Beyond them, the sponsor must be a "nearest relation" by blood — a real uncle or aunt on your father's or mother's side, a grandparent on either side, or a first-degree paternal or maternal cousin — who is an NRI, ordinarily lives abroad and has looked after you as your guardian.
Based on MCC's UG Counselling 2026 Information Bulletin (revised 20.08.2026). The 2027 bulletin hasn't been published yet — rules can change, so check it when it is.
Who this applies to
Candidates seeking NRI quota MBBS/BDS seats in Deemed Universities through MCC counselling
The rule, explained
The nearest relations listed in the bulletin are: the real brother and sister of your father (real uncle and real aunt), the real brother and sister of your mother (maternal uncle and aunt), your father's parents, your mother's parents, and first-degree paternal and maternal cousins.
Such a relative must be an NRI, ordinarily reside abroad, and have looked after you as your guardian, with evidence of this. There must also be an affidavit stating these facts. MCC will ask for a legal document showing that the sponsor is actually your bona fide legal guardian.
If a legal guardian sponsors you, they must submit valid legal proof that they are your legally recognised guardian under the Guardian and Wards Act 1890, plus a notarised affidavit that they will pay the entire course fee and your living expenses during the course, supported by their NRE (Non-Resident External) bank account passbook.
If a parent, real brother or real sister sponsors you, they give a notarised affidavit to pay the entire course fee and living expenses, supported by the NRE bank account passbook, and the relationship is verified by a competent revenue officer (Tehsildar/Government Officer).
